Role of Editors and Editorial Board Members

Editor-in-Chief

The editor-in-chief (EIC) has a final responsibility to publish manuscripts after review in the journal independently although he hears opinions of reviewers and editors. The EIC is the final decision maker on publishing and editorial policies, and presides the editorial board meeting. When any issue on the publication ethics occurs, the EIC presides the ad hoc meeting for resolution of each issue and finally decides on the journal’s statement. He recommends editorial board members to the president of The Korean Association of Urogenital Tract Infection and inflammation. He attends the executive board meeting of the society to explain the journal’s status and budget.

Associate editor

Associate editors help the EIC by screening the submitted manuscript for compatibility with the journal’s aims and scope, whether it is described according to the journal’s style and format, and check for plagiarism using Similarity Check (iThenticate). They also participate in selecting reviewers for each manuscript. The associate editors meet with the EIC regularly to discuss the review results and decide on the acceptance of manuscripts.

Role of editorial board members

Editorial board members meet regularly to discuss the editorial policy and propose changes for improvement. They frequently participate in the review of manuscripts and may recommend new reviewers. They may write an Editorial or Issues and Perspectives manuscript. They ask colleagues to submit a manuscript to the journal and may recommend potential authors for commissioned articles. International advisory board members advise the EIC for journal promotion and writing Issues and Perspectives manuscripts. They recruit submissions from outside of Korea. Their experience in journal editing is shared with the editorial board.

Ethics editor

The Ethics editor provides consultation and the resolution process on publication ethics issues upon referral from the EIC. The Ethics editor also provides lectures on research and publication ethics issues to reviewers and editorial board members as part of regular education sessions sponsored by the journal.

Statistical Editor

The Statistical editors thoroughly review the statistics used in the manuscripts for appropriateness and logical interpretation. If any flaws are found, they will be reported to the EIC or Associate editors and shared with the authors for improvement.

English editor

The English editor proofreads all manuscripts for the abstract, English summaries, and full manuscripts for English articles. Suggestions for better flow and logical thought processes are provided.

AI Field Editor

The artificial intelligence (AI) field editor will review whether authors adhere to the following guidelines when submitting their papers to the journal: (1) AI tools cannot be listed or cited as one of the authors due to its inability to take responsibility for errors. (2) Authors should exert every effort to ensure the reliability of their papers when utilizing AI, holding responsibility for any plagiarism or false information generated using AI. (3) Authors must provide detailed information, including prompts, AI tools used, and their versions, in the Materials and Methods or Acknowledgment section when employing AI tools. (4) Images or videos created using AI, without societal consensus on copyright, cannot be included in papers at the moment. (5) Reviewers are cautioned against sharing the manuscript outside during the peer-review process. Even simple uploading papers to external AI tools can break confidentiality. (6) The editor may refuse to proceed with review of the paper if inappropriate use of AI is detected.

Manuscript editor

The editor checks the style and format of all manuscripts according to the journal’s guidelines.

Layout editor

The Layout editor produces the PDF file according to the journal’s format.

Website and JATS XML file producer

Production of JATS XML files based on the journal’s DTD is done, and content is uploaded to the journal homepage.

Dr. Yoo is a professor of Department of Urology at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea, and a urologist at Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong in Seoul, Korea.
He has served as the Associate Editor of the Urogenital Tract Infection (UTI) since 2021 and as the Associate Editor of Investigative Clinical Urology since 2023. And he has been serving as Editor-in-Chief of the UTI since 2024.

Manager of the review process: Seung-Kwon Choi, Deputy Editor of UTI, Seoul Medical Center, Korea
Dr. Choi is a urologist at Seoul Medical Center in Seoul, Korea. He has also involved in Investigative Clinical Urology, Journal of Urologic Oncology, and Urogenital Tract Infection as a reviewer. His extensive experience with publications and the peer review process has helped UTI select appropriate reviewers according to its goals and scope.

Ethics editor: Kyu Yeoun Won, Kyung Hee University, Korea
Dr. Kyu Yeoun Won has been a professor of the Department of Pathology at Kyung Hee University, Korea, since 2024. He has served as an Institutional Review Board member at Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong since 2017.
He completed his PhD at Kyung Hee University, Korea. He is actively engaged in academic activities in renowned medical journals. His perspective on research and publication ethics is highly valuable, so he serves as the Ethics Editor of the UTI.

Statistics editor: Jung Hyun Kim, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Korea
Dr. Kim is an assistant professor of the Division of Tourism and Wellness in the fields of Health Policy and Management; Population-based claims/EMR data analysis and continuum of care; Cost-effectiveness/benefit/utility analysis; DIgital Health; Community Health; Health disparities and social determinants of health at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. She received a PhD in Public Health, majoring in Health Services Research/Health Economics from University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). She has consulted on biomedical statistics for various medical journals and researchers.

AI Field Editor: Jin Wook Kim, Chung-Ang University, Korea
Dr. Jin Wook Kim has been a professor at the Department of Urology since 2014, and at the Department of Medical Informatics since 2020 at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, Korea, and a urologist at Chung-Ang Unviersity Gwangmyeong Hospital in Gwangmyeong, Korea since 2022. He has been serving as an Associate Editor for the World Journal of Men's Health and an Editor for the International Neurourology Journal since 2014. He is a member of the Computer Vision Foundation, and the Korean Society for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, and was a visiting professor at the Computer vision and Intelligent Robotics lab at Birmingham University, UK. He has been reviewing papers for various disciplines including mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics, genetics, computer vision, machine learning, systems biology, plant biology and entomology.

Manuscript editor: Hwan Tae Ahn, Journal Total Solution (JTS), Korea
Mr. Ahn has worked as a manuscript editor since 2010. He is the representative editor of Journal Total Solution (JTS). JTS is a preeminent manuscript editing company in Korea. He holds the Korea Manuscript Editor Certification and has completed the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) Essential Skills Certificate program. Dr. Dombrowski received a joint Ph.D. in 2013 from the University of Chicago in Linguistics and Slavic Languages/Literature. Subsequently, he completed a post-baccalaureate health professions program at UC Berkeley Extension and has worked as a professional biomedical editor since 2015, during which time he has edited over 3,500 articles from diverse fields within medicine, ranging from public health and policy to surgical specialties and basic research.
